Beloved radio host, Jim Bohannon, who hosted The Jim Bohannon Show, heard Sunday evenings on Albany’s Talk Radio 1590 and 99.3 WALG, has passed away after a long battle with esophageal cancer.
Earlier this year, Bohannon’s program was inducted into the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Broadcasting Hall of Fame. Ahead of his induction, then-NAB President, Gordon Smith, said “Jim encompasses the spirit of radio. His distinct voice, humor and engaging programs have informed and entertained listeners for 50 years, while addressing historic milestones affecting our nation.”
Curtis LeGeyt assumed the role as NAB President at the beginning of this year. Upon Bohannon’s passing, LeGeyt said “Our industry has lost a legend,” adding “His charismatic nature, distinct style and engaging programs have left an enduring mark on radio and the generations of audiences whose lives he touched. I am grateful for the opportunity I had to be a guest on his show, and was honored to induct him into NAB’s Broadcasting Hall of Fame earlier this year. We offer our deepest condolences to Jim’s family, friends and fans.”
For years, Bohannon has informed and entertained Albany-area listeners. The entire staff at 1590 and 99.3 WALG joins Jim’s fans and colleagues in mourning his loss. Bohannon passed away on Saturday morning, November 12th, at the age of 78.
Bohannon is survived by his wife, Annabelle, and his daughter, Elizabeth. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Jim’s memory to an organization that serves Veterans.
