Hurricane Ian, now a major Category 3 storm that is expected to rapidly gain even more strength before slamming into Florida and then pushing into Georgia, has prompted Georgia Governor Brian Kemp’s plans to issue a State of Emergency for all our state’s counties.  That’s according to Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) Director James C. Stallings who said on Tuesday Kemp will make the declaration on Wednesday.

Expect the State of Emergency to go into effect at 7am on Thursday morning and expire at midnight on Friday night.

Meanwhile, some Georgia counties are already under watches and warnings.  The coast of Georgia is under a Tropical Storm Watch while a Warning has already been issued for Camden and Glynn counties.

Originally tracking closer to Albany, updated predictions have shifted Hurricane Ian’s path east, putting the Albany area in an area that would be expected to see a less dramatic storm impact.  However, the storm’s path could change at any time.  Regardless of the storm’s exact path, officials are advising all the state’s residents to be prepared for flooding, wind damage, power outages and even evacuation orders, if they become necessary.

If Ian takes the path currently predicted, south Georgia could still experience sustained winds of up to 57 miles per hour, as well as localized flooding.
